Special Deputy's Unit

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office has a staff of auxiliary (Special) deputies. These special deputies consist of former office Deputies, Deputies awaiting openings within the office and Deputies working as business men and women within the community who just enjoy doing special work for the purposes of providing Community Service to Fairfield County. All special deputies are required to complete 16 hours monthly, although most do more, of “volunteer” service in order to maintain their commission through this office. One special deputy assists weekly with training of our K-9’s, and many others assist with Patrol, Jail, Detective, Court and Job & Family Services’ Security and the Mounted Unit. These Special Deputies wear the same uniforms and have the same training and powers as a full time Deputy Sheriff. Volunteer specials save the county approximately $100,000 annually in salaries and benefits. Members of the Special Deputy Unit are also involved in numerous Special Assignments like the Fairfield County Fair, Seton Parish Catholic Church’s Annual Festival, the Lancaster Festival, the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival and the Annual Earth Angel Super Cruise-In and Car Show. For additional information regarding the Special Deputy’s Unit please contact Sgt. Alex Lape at 740-652-7245 or 614-322-5250.
